Backyard Garden in the Fall

My garden is just about done for, mums are doing good but the zinnias leaves are mildewed, and the flowers are drying up.

The elephant ears got almost as big as me.
Some of my zinnias came up in the grass later on so they still look pretty good.  My purple mums bloomed all summer.
This is all thats left of the moonflowers.  The seed pods get very prickly like a sweetgum ball.
This was the first year for pampas grass, hope it gets bigger next year.

Looks like a big feather duster, there are two more plants in the middle of the yard.  This  is a group of three, but only one bloomed.

I found some black walnuts at St. Ferdinands Park in Florissant and laid them out on the leaves to dry out.

The squirrels don't bother them at all in the park, so I figured they would be alright.  The next day when I came out to look at them this is what I found.  Eight neat little piles of cracked shells!

Guess I was wrong about squirrels not liking black walnuts.  They must of thought I was giving them a treat!  I have a few more, guess I'll dry them indoors this time.
